The UNITED Movement for Change has strongly condemned the government’s proposed Communications Bill 2026, along with new accreditation rules and online content regulations, calling them “a serious attempt to control the media” and accusing authorities of offering “millions of dalasis” to some outlets to buy loyalty. UNITE warned the measures would give the state sweeping powers over journalists, content creators and anyone posting online as the country heads to December’s presidential vote, and urged the National Assembly to reject the bill and defend press freedom, saying it stands with the Gambia Press Union.
