Darboe Threatens to Sue Over PIU Officers' Death Claims
He claimed that his party made no statement at the time, while the government allegedly portrayed the UDP as a terrorist group linked to the killings. According to him, this narrative was intended to justify labeling the party as violent and potentially illegal. He also stated that he was personally accused of involvement in the murder and may pursue legal action over what he described as defamatory claims.
He said, "My party did not make any statement at that time. Adama Barrow's government, through the Deputy Inspector General of police and the government's spokesman, dehumanized UDP as a terrorist group that was responsible for the murder of these people, to the extent of linking the killer to someone closely connected to Yankuba Darboe and the United Democratic Party. The whole objective was to create a narrative that would allow this failing government, which has lived in perpetual fear of UDP. They would have declared us an illegal organization, an organization prone to violence. I personally was accused of being an accomplice in this murder. I may seek redress for those defamatory and slanderous statements against me."
